'Raku' reminds us of the famous Raku pottery of Japan. The fascinating process used for making Raku pottery includes firing at extremely high temperatures until the pot catches on fire, which cracks the glaze and changes the colors into unpredictable broken patterns and hues. Then the pot is dropped into a can of water, creating more cracks and freezing the effects into a permanent pattern. 'Raku,' the flower, has the cracks and crinkles of Raku pottery. Its vivid yellow, orange, and pink colors blend, shift, and break into uniquely different patterns in each new bloom. The flower is also one of those rare picotée type flowers with a darker edge surrounding a lighter colored flower petal. All in all, the 5-7" flowers are quite distinctive and different. The bush is medium-sized and upright. Released from HVH in 2010.
