		HVH Recommended Fertilizers Hibiscus need regular nutrition. Remember, most potting mixes do not contain any food for plants, the mix is meant to hold water and fertilizer and provide a material for the roots to anchor to. It is up to us to provide the right mix of soluble mineral salts (plant food) for the plant roots to absorb. Key benefits of regular nutrition - more flowers, bigger flowers, more colorful flowers, healthier plants, more robust plants, even insect resistance. Mixing water soluble fertilizer, such as the HVH Special Blend, into a bucket and applying to the hibiscus is the best way to feed them. However, not everyone can do this regularly. If you know that you are one of those who are likely to do it less often than is ideal there is a practical solution. Apply time release as the nutrition base and then ccontinue to use the water soluble when you can get to it. The time release will help the plants stay healthy and productive during the times they are not receiving the premium Special Blend.

We search the world for great products that we then test on our own plants, both in the production greenhouse and at home. If they work and we can get them for you we then offer them on the online store. This year we tested a product that has long been touted as the "secret weapon" of those who win at hibiscus shows - potassium nitrate. We have always included far more potassium in the HVH recommended fertilizer than is found in commercial fertilizers, but this year we tried spraying and irrigating with additional high quality potassium nitrate and the results were indisputable - larger, more colorful flowers, even indoors. Varieties that usually become washed out in low winter light brightened up to almost summer levels shortly after they received the extra potassium. Seeing is believing! Try it for yourself. 		Growth Enhancer, 1-Quart Our new growth enhancer, Super Nova, is a growth enhancer made of fermented seaweed and plant extracts designed to enhance the plant's ability to absorb nutrients and to increase the overall vigor of the plant.
