El Capitolio Triple 8" Pot El Capitolio Triple 8" Pot
The original red "poodle flower" with its two sports, one yellow the other orange, are planted together in one pot to make a tri-color bush in red, yellow, and orange. Flower size is 3-4" for these delicate beauties. The El Capitolio varieties are vigorous, strong plants that flower all the time in good conditions. Outside they can reach 8' in a large pot although they can be trimmed to the size desired if they start to get too big. El Capitolio, like the other ancestors of the modern hibiscus, is well suited for sunny, hot conditions in a garden. More Info

Hibiscus arnottianus Hibiscus arnottianus
This native Hawaiian species has been important in the hybridizing of modern cultivars of hibiscus. It blooms with a pure white flower that is scented, although some subspecies that developed on the different islands of Hawaii are more or less fragrant than others. We offer the most scented of all the subspecies of H. arnottianus that we have ever found. The fragrance is best described as perfumed, floral, and sweet as Hawaii itself. The bush grows tall and blooms freely in warm climates. The flowers have the older form typical of hibiscus species - 4-5" across with little or no petal overlap. H. arnottianus makes a wonderful addition to any hibiscus collection. It is basically carefree, needing only warmth and water to thrive and bloom continually.

Hibiscus schizopetalus 4" Pot Hibiscus schizopetalus 4" Pot
One of the original hibiscus species that were used in Hawaii and elsewhere to create the ancestors of today's modern hybrids. The name means "split petals", due to the unusual and charming blooms that this hibiscus makes. The bush is tall and graceful, and blooms abundantly. All of the original hibiscus species are strong healthy plants that grow well with minimal care in suitable environments.  More...

Hibiscus liliflorus 4" Pot Hibiscus liliflorus 4" Pot
This is one of the species plants that are the ancestors of the fancy hibiscus hybrids of today. Almost extinct in the wild due to introduced plant diseases and pests, lack of pollinators, interbreeding with introduced species and the loss of habitat, H. liliflorus still survive and thrive in botanical gardens and private collections. For the home grower H. liliflorus is a satisfying plant to grow. It blooms well at all times, although it prefers medium temperatures (bloom size suffers when the temperature regularly reaches above 95F), grows up to 4-5 feet tall and somewhat spreading. It responds well to pruning and will branch out profusely. The bush is often covered with bright pink flowers that reaches up to 6" in width and lasts for 1-2 days.

Hibiscus rosa-sinensis 4" Pot Hibiscus rosa-sinensis 4" Pot
Would you like to own a bit of hibiscus history? Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is the original hibiscus species plant from China that was described by Carl Linnaeus in his 1753 Taxonomy. H. rosa-sinensis was later imported to Europe from China, and is the parent of the modern hibiscus, whose species still bears its name. The 5-6" full, ruffly double flowers are a bright, glowing red, and even by modern standards, beautiful examples of hibiscus. The flowers stay fully opened on the bush for several days. The buds are so packed with petals that they begin to show their color a week before they open fully. The bush is somewhat open and very attractive, with large, glossy leaves. H. rosa-sinensis is a very large, vigorous grower and prolific bloomer that tolerates sun and heat well. The mature size is 6-20' high in the ground, and somewhat smaller in pots. With all the wonderful qualities of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, it's no wonder it is the direct descendant of the modern hybrid hibiscus! NETQUOTEVAR:LINK
